This type of fossil is called as trace fossils

An animal track is an imprint of the animal that is left behind in the soil, mud, snow, or some other ground surface. This is formed by the walking of animals across it.  It is used by the hunters and naturalists to identify the animals living in that particular area. These tracks can be fossilized for over millions of years. This is the reason we are able to see the track fossil of dinosaurs on some rocks.
