You need to apply your knowledge of linear equation in one variable.

The mathematical expressions of the above statements can written as follows.

We were given the number to be

[tex]N[/tex]

Three times this number is

[tex]3 \times N = 3N[/tex]

Then 15 less than 3 times the number will be

[tex]3N - 15[/tex]

Now if we add N to 15 less than 3 times itself we get 101. This means that,

[tex]N + (3N - 15) = 101[/tex]
The above equation can be used to find the value of
[tex]N[/tex]
