With the triangle marking on this picture we have represented the Ethiopian Highlands. These highlands have formed relatively recently, geologically speaking, with the reason being the intense geological activity in this area that has gradually lifted up the area. These highlands are located on a newly formed divergent boundary, where part of the African continent is slowly moving away from the rest of it, in eastern direction. Because of this, it is an area where there's rift valleys, lot of earthquakes, as well as volcanic activity.
