What happens to an acid that causes the formation of a polyatomic ion

When the hydrogen ions (H⁺) from the acid react with the hydroxide ions (OH⁻) from the base. The acid and base neutralize each other. The other ions from both dissolve. When the extra ions dissolved in water from its making evaporate and the ions join to form the compound know as salt.
