The person who set himself on fire on June 11, 1963 in protest of ngo Dinh Diem's treatment of Buddhists was Thich Quang Duc. He was a Vietnamese Mahayana Buddhist monk who burned himself to death at a busy Saigon road intersection. He was protesting the persecution of Buddhists by the South Vietnamese government.
