If the earth were made up of uniform permeable material, water will leach down-ward continually, thus there will be no water table. Under the water table are are the three layers of the aquifers and below the aquifer is the bedrock which is not permeable, this characteristics allows the water to be contained. Assuming the bedrock is permeable, water will leach through it and the water table will not exist.
