Call [tex](1,-2)[/tex] for point A and [tex](-4, -4)[/tex] for point B

Use the distance formula [tex]AB = d(A, B) = \sqrt{(x_{B} - x_{A})^2 + (y_{B} - y_{A})^2}[/tex]

Insert values for [tex]x_{B}[/tex], [tex]x_{A}[/tex], [tex]y_{B}[/tex] and [tex]y_{A}[/tex]

[tex]AB = \sqrt{(-4 - 1)^2 + (-4 - (-2))^2}\\= \sqrt{(-4 - 1)^2 + (-4 + 2)^2}\\= \sqrt{(-5)^2 + (-2)^2}\\= \sqrt{25 + 4}\\= \sqrt{29}[/tex]
