The Eighth Amendment is one of the ten Amendments that constitute the Bill of rights which aims at protecting an individual's right from any abuse of the government. The restriction that it places on bail and punishment is that it prohibits the government from imposing people excessive bail and fines and it also prohibits it from inflicting unusual punishments or harsh penalties on criminal defendants.
