Period number is 1. It's group number also is 1. Hydrogen is a non-metal, yet happens to be on the metal side since it has that many valence electrons.

Hydrogen's period number is 1. It is the first element on the periodic table it has 1 valence electron, it's chemical symbol is H and is group number is 1.
