Yes, for example, you can use a scatter plot to show the spread of something.

You can see positive or negative trends. This will show you the corrections of certain things, such as fuel price and time, yearly earnings and education level, etc. Since this data can be sporadic, you can't necessarily draw a line from one point to the next guy you can identify trends and correlations.
