Let the two numbers be x and y.

Given,

x + y = 23

x = 23 - y

Also given,

y = 2x - 1

y= 2(23 -y) -1

y = 46 - 2y - 1

3y = 45

y = 15

x = 23 - y = 23 - 15 = 8

Hence, the two numbers are 15 and 8.

x + y = 23

x = 2y-1

y + 2y-1 =23

3y-1 =23

3y =24

y = 24/3 =8

 y = 8

 x = 2*8-1 = 15

15+8 = 23

 the 2 numbers are 8 & 15
