Miles per gallon that a car gets for highway driving is a quantitative variable. This is because a quantitative variable is something that can be quantified, or measured. For instance, you can say your car gets 22 miles per gallon. It is not a qualitative observation because a qualitative observation is something that is merely observed, not measured.
