Complementary opposition is typical of segmentary lineages. A segmentary lineage or also known as tribal society is a type of society grouped into segments. The smallest segment would be a close family. In this type of society, when conflicts arise between brothers, it must be settled among all the brothers while the other relatives should not take sides.
