The primary political problems faced by northwestern europe today have to do with whether the project of european integration will succeed. With Britain's Brexit vote it seems less likely than it did just a few short years ago that the European project will result in an integrated and cohesive Europe. As a result, a region that looked to emerge as a global economic superpower now faces significant uncertainty.
